Lido V3: Ethereum Staking Infrastructure for a Diverse Product Line

Lido contributors are pleased to share an overview of Lido V3: Ethereum Staking Infrastructure, a conceptual framework inspired by GOOSE-2 Hasu’s submission. It aims to address the diverse needs of Ethereum stakers and foster greater adoption (re: Goal #3, 2025 Main Focus: Expand stETH’s Ecosystem with a Diverse Product Line). This new approach introduces stVaults (“staking vaults”), transitioning Lido from a one-size-fits-all liquid staking pool into a more flexible, modular infrastructure — serving stakers, Node Operators, Asset Managers, and beyond, while capitalizing on stETH’s liquidity benefits and adhering to Ethereum’s core values of openness and flexibility.

TL;DR

  • stVaults: A non-custodial staking primitive linked to Lido Core. It supports customizable validation setups and still mints stETH, preserving liquidity and composability.
  • Personalized Staking: Allows institutions, large holders, and specialized validators to create dedicated stVaults with tailored validation parameters, fee structures, access, integrations, and risk-reward profiles.
  • Overcollateralized Minting: A “Reserve Ratio” mechanism designed to keep stETH well-collateralized, enhancing resilience against potential slashing events.
  • Modular Foundation: stVaults establish a base layer for third-party builders, facilitating DeFi integrations, bespoke staking products, and adaptable strategies.
  • Roadmap: A three-phase plan, starting with early adopter experimentation, followed by testnet deployment, and concluding with a Mainnet launch—subject to the Lido DAO’s support and future design approval.

Next Steps & Road Ahead

An evolving draft of the architecture and design for stVaults is available here:
Lido Staking Vaults (stVaults): Technical Design and Architecture

Going forward, Lido contributors invite community feedback and participation, while seeking the Lido DAO’s continued support and future design approval. In particular:

  1. Early Adopters: Builders are encouraged to create custom vault setups, testing usability, security, and integration potential.
  2. Testnet Deployment: A public testnet will stress-test assumptions and help refine design parameters.
  3. Mainnet Readiness: Risk parameters will be finalized, security audits completed, and integrations across DeFi and institutional partners confirmed.

Your thoughts are welcome on how this framework could reshape the Ethereum staking ecosystem. Feedback on architectural trade-offs, risk management, and potential edge cases will help refine Lido V3 for maximum impact and minimal friction.

At least LDO staking, commitment to expected income repurchase plan, and income sharing plan need to be introduced to increase the connection between the community and the project
