Project: Lido Lightkeepers standby list

We Want You  !

This is general calling notice for Lido Lightkeepers.

The purpose of this post is to develop the Lido Lightkeepers list.

The Lightkeepers list is a standby list of community members who wish to be considered for roles or positions within legal entities, key holders for multisigs, or other opportunities that support the decentralised mission of Lido.

Background

Two areas of much commentary and discussion throughout the DAO space are procurement and legal. Firstly, how do DAOs enter into contracts? Second, which and how many legal entities, if any, are helpful in solving challenges in the established order that arise from the use of protocol governance structures?

The procurement challenge is the inability for DAOs to transact predictably with the commercial suppliers that supply the essential tools and infrastructure required for the DAO and its community to continue to operate and grow.

The legal challenge is keeping the legal surfaces of DAOs inside of a constellation of laws that can affect them.

Holistically, these challenges present a sustainability issue. It is strategic in nature because a failure to respond to this evolving environment decreases the certainty of continuity and increases the number of supply chain and legal vulnerability points.

Lido DAO has previously expressed some of these limitations here.

The Problem

You can’t build solutions if you do not know what resources are available.

No organisational solution, legal strategy or other remedy that is in-step with the limitations imposed by the speed of blockchain technology adoption, but which is also matched to the appropriate stage of the Lido DAO life cycle, will be helpful in a meaningful way unless there is a developed list of community members who are looking for opportunities to step forward and play important if not pioneering roles in the evolution of the next stages in the lifecycle of the Lido DAO. Any new solution needs different people.

This is as true for the introduction of additional multi-sigs, workstreams, or core units or contributors, as it is also true for the formation of any legal entities; arms-length, satellite, ancillary, or otherwise, for single or multiple purposes; or to wrap and spin-out discrete functions away from the DAO to address specific challenges.

The Solution

The Lido Lightkeepers List.

A non-binding solicitation of interest from our community to identify a standby list of community members who are ready to play a greater part in addressing the sustainability of Lido DAO moving forward.

This will include a list of potential interested parties in multi-sigs signer roles, a list of potential interest in directors for legal entity roles, a list of persons who might join a membership association to support Lido, and the like.

The list will not be binding on anyone, it only records an interest in participation so we can find you.

It is a 30,000 foot pulse-check on what we have to work with in answering real challenges while fundamentally preserving the centrality of DAO governance.

The Details

Lido is squeaky clean.

To progress Lido acceptance in the meatspace, it is not only important, but it is imperative that any arms length structure that supports the DAO must be “unchallengeable” by adversaries of DAO governance on the one hand, and compliant with the demands of the suppliers of services that the DAO needs on the other hand.

To assume a position of leadership between DAOs and the meatspace; Lido’s ability to work, contract with, and grow with partners will be determined by the ability to show that we know who the people are who either work with or who make decisions in any supporting structure.

The Presumptions

Therefore, it should be an absolute presumption before anyone steps forward that any role within any structure will require the disclosure of proof of identity and residence somewhere in the process to a corporate services provider or a law firm or KYC specialist. The whole world may not need to know who you are, but we need to be able to inspire confidence outside of the DAO that we have a process that identifies” bad actors: Additionally, it should be a presumption that you would warrant the truth of your own statements and also a presumption interested persons would be disqualified for the following reasons:

  1. You are under the age of majority where you live
  2. You have been involved with prior frauds
  3. You are on an Anti-monery Laundering, Terrorist Financing list, or a Politically Exposed Person list (software)
  4. You are an undischarged bankrupt

The Survey

The survey questions are:

  1. We may wish to create new multi-sigs. Do you express interest in assuming a role as a multisig signer?

  2. We may want to create small legal entities that strip-out a narrow function from the DAO, for example to issue invoices and receipts to contributors or to contract for simple services with suppliers. Do you express interest in assuming a role as a Director, a Council Member, Protector, Trustee or similar role in a legal entity?

  3. We may want to work as an association-like entity that promotes elements common to Lido, like liquid staking adoption, analytics, event sponsorship, etc. Do you express interest in assuming a role as a member in a similar meatspace organisation, where members direct the activities of the association by votes?
