Lido Community Lifeguards Initiative

StakeCat: Solo Stakers with a Vision for Lido’s Lifeguard Program

I’m here representing StakeCat, a collective of Solo Stakers.

Each member of our team is a Solo Staker, a DVT runner, a native re-staker, and a cat enthusiast.

We spearheaded efforts as one of the first mainnet clusters on Obol. We wish to bring our combined knowledge and collective efforts to the lido community lifeguards initiative and continue to advocate for Solo Stakers/DVT.

Who Are We?
Think of us as a small, tight-knit group passionate about the potential of Ethereum. We’re not just Solo Stakers; we’re a community that believes in the strength of collaboration. Our work with Obol has taught us the importance of teamwork, innovation and security in staking, and we’ve applied this knowledge by pooling our resources to run validators, enhancing projects like Eigen layer by running node operator as a collective of Solo Stakers.

Why StakeCat for Lido Lifeguards?

Experience: We are crypto natives, from various backgrounds, that we have built up hands-on technical experience since 2018.

Each of us had been heavily involved with Obol since Athena testnet all the way to mainnet beta, now technical ambassadors for Obol.

Collaboration: by pooling our resources we’ve achieved more than we could alone, a philosophy we aim to bring to the Lifeguard Program.

Advocacy: We stand for Solo Stakers and the value of distributed validator technology (DVT). Joining the Lifeguard Program is our chance to advocate for these principles on a larger stage.

Our Vision:
We see joining the Lifeguard Program as a natural extension of our work and values. It’s about leveraging our collective expertise for the greater good of the Ethereum and Lido community, ensuring security and promoting the principles of decentralization. We believe that by contributing our skills and voice to the Lifeguard Program, we can help shape a resilient and inclusive future for Lido.

We’re excited about the possibility of working alongside the Lido community, bringing our perspective and expertise to the table. We believe that together, we can make a significant impact, supporting Lido’s mission and championing the cause of Solo Stakers and DVT within the ecosystem.

Thank you for considering us for this opportunity. We’re eager to contribute and learn along the way.

Hi @GLCstaked_StakeCat your application looks great! Let’s set up a time for a quick chat with the current Lifeguards. Feel free to DM me on Telegram @samuelclk or Twitter @stakesaurus. Cheers.

@enti thank you for your application to Community Lifeguards coordinator, LEGO council approves you to replace Eridian on this role and expects you to prepare a draft of proposal for the Initiative’s extension (for the DAO to decide on it).
Could you please share a signed (guide is here) wallet address with us with which you would like to join CLI multisig?

Thank you @Alex_L and LEGO! That’s very great news.

I have already started writing the proposal. Hope to be able to share it soon.

And on the multisig front, here’s my signed message to join the CLI multisig using the address 0xfcfbafa0d5f5512C65DbB4C073fE4Ee6Dc3c4779.

Looking forward to the future of the CLI!

Hey all. This pilot was an incredible opportunity and quite a ride! But now that the pilot is over and a new proposal passed we’ll be moving all the communications to a new thread.

Please refer to [EGG] Establishing the Community Lifeguards Initiative (CLI) Sub-Committee to keep up with the CLI. Here’s our Q2 '24 report for anyone curious

Proposing StakeCat as Community Lifeguard

After a successful pilot, the Community Lifeguards Initiative was recently consolidated as a sub-committee of LEGO.

As such, we think it’s time to onboard an additional Community Lifeguard covering the Europe region. This will complement Enti’s and my coverage of LATAM and Asia, and allow us to further ramp up our efforts in developing Lido solo staking communities globally.

After extensive rounds interviewing suitable candidates together with the Lido Community Staking team, we have decided to nominate StakeCat as a group for the role, with @GLCstaked_StakeCat serving as the main point of contact.

The roles of StakeCat as a Community Lifeguard will be in line with those defined in the overall initiative.

Our Rationale

StakeCat is a group of 7 Ethereum solo stakers that decided to combine their efforts to raise their proficiencies and contribute to the development of solo stakers.

Some of their key contributions to the solo staking community speak for themselves below:

  1. GLCStaked’s Solo Staker List: Aside from Rated’s list, this is the only other list that identifies solo stakers, and has resulted in solo stakers being eligible for benefits across the Ethereum ecosystem. The StakeCat team painstakingly maintains and filters this list as a public good.
  2. Solo Stakers Aren’t Going Away blogpost: Analyses the behavioural trends of solo stakers to better understand how to grow this talent pool.
  3. StakeCat grows and maintains their local communities in the UK centred around solo staking, the Lido ecosystem, DVT, and in general all things Ethereum.
  4. Spearheaded adoption of DVTs as one of the first mainnet clusters on Obol, and actively participating in SimpleDVT plus supporting participants from the very first cohort
  5. Being an already proficient AVS operator, they will be able to guide solo stakers when pre-confirmations are implemented on Ethereum

To put it simply, they are thought leaders in the solo staking space with the right motivations to ensure strong and healthy growth of the Lido solo staking community.

I recommend re-reading @GLCStaked’s application in the comments above to hear in their own words on why they are an ideal candidate as a Community Lifeguard.

Working Structure

As described above, StakeCat will serve as the European Community Lifeguard as a group while maintaining an individual representative (@GLCstaked_StakeCat ).

While this is an uncommon arrangement, we believe that it is the optimal working structure to draw out the best of what StakeCat has to offer.

Individually, each StakeCat member is a highly proficient Ethereum node operator with a strong reputation among peers. Collectively, StakeCat delivers and executes high-quality content and initiatives, achieving results far more efficiently than would be possible as individuals.

Onboarding StakeCat as a group also allows a wider coverage of community events and major conferences happening across Europe.

With that being said, the budget constraints of Community Lifeguard Initiative remains and the total compensation available to StakeCat as a group will be capped to that of 1 full-time-equivalent.

Conclusion

Being a Lido Community Lifeguard is demanding work as we are constantly driving new initiatives and breaking new grounds. However, we are confident that StakeCat will bring the Community Lifeguard Initiative to new heights and ramp up the adoption of Ethereum solo staking through the Lido CSM.

With that, I invite the community to provide feedback on this proposal and show their support for our potential new Lifeguard!

Hey @Stakesaurus! Thanks for the proposal. For me it sounds. I support it!

I support the proposal as well! StakeCat have been great participants in both SDVT and CSM testnet, and would be really cool to try out how a group can work as CLG.

Thank you for the proposal and we support this!

CLI has been doing a great job, and we understand that their work requires a connection with local communities to raise awareness of this initiative. Thus, having some person/group in each region totally makes sense.

StakeCat seems to be a legitimate candidate for that role after what they have done for solo stakers such as making analysis on the environment of solo stakers as described in the proposal.
