Kyber Network Propose rotation to Caliber in the Oracle Set

A new entity has been founded by one of Kyber Network’s founders - Loi Luu - where most node infra related activities will happen, and some existing infrastructure related activities, previously under Kyber Network, are set to be transitioned to, leveraging the new team’s extended focus and expertise in infra. As such, Kyber Network proposes to Lido DAO that we discontinue oracle operations under Kyber and propose that Caliber, should the community accept this, take the place of Kyber Network in the oracle set.

Caliber is happy to take on the responsibilities currently managed by Kyber Network within the Lido Oracle set. As a leading Web3 Venture Builder, Caliber empowers visionary founders to create transformative startups in consumer apps, DeFi, and blockchain infrastructure.

In addition to our investment and incubation efforts, Caliber brings extensive expertise in node operations. We serve as delegated node validators for prominent networks such as NEAR, Babylon, and Chromia. Our active engagement in Babylon’s governance and ecosystem development, underscores our commitment to fostering growth across these networks, particularly in Vietnam and the broader Southeast Asia region. Furthermore, Caliber operates Ethereum node validators on the mainnet, demonstrating our commitment to the Ethereum community as a whole.

Currently, we operate a variety of blockchain nodes—including an Ethereum archive node and validator nodes for Chromia, Babylon, and NEAR to name a few —with virtually 100% uptime. We run them on a combination of dedicated servers and cloud platforms (GCP and AWS), and maintain comprehensive backup and recovery processes to ensure continuous stability and high availability. For redundancy, we set up backup nodes to fail over if one experiences an issue—for example, we always provision two Ethereum endpoints. Given the importance of security, we also have intensive procedures in place to manage private keys and operating wallets.

At Caliber, our founding team includes Loi Luu - founder of Kyber Network, and Xinshu - founder of Zilliqa.

Hi everyone!

Caliber has been operating an oracle for Lido on Ethereum over the past 12 days on the Hoodi testnet. During this period, the Oracle has performed consistently and reliably, with all oracle reports being delivered on time. The infrastructure setup appears robust.

As a Lido Valset technical contributor, I see no blockers for rotating out Kyber Network and replacing them with Caliber. I’d suggest that the DAO proceeds with a Snapshot (offchain) vote, followed by an Aragon (onchain) vote to formalize the transition.

Don’t see any blockers from my perspective either, especially since the community seems to not have any requests to consider any other specific operators.

Hi! DAO Operations are here.

Given the close alignment and continuity between the Kyber Network and Caliber teams, technologies, and infrastructure, and the fact that Caliber has successfully completed a testing period as an oracle operator on the Ethereum Hoodi testnet, we suggest that the DAO proceeds with a Snapshot (offchain) and Aragon (onchain) vote to rotate Kyber Network out in favor of Caliber.

The Snapshot vote will offer two options for tokenholders:

  1. Rotate Kyber Network out for Caliber in the Lido on Ethereum Oracles (while keeping the current quorum of 5/9), or
  2. Remove Kyber Network from the Oracle set, temporarily change the required quorum from 5/9 to 5/8, and initiate a comprehensive search and selection process for a new oracle.

If the DAO approves the Snapshot vote, the next step will be an on-chain voting for:

  • in case Option 1 passes, execution of the oracles rotation, or
  • in case Option 2 passes, removing Kyber Network from the Oracle set.

We invite the community to share thoughts, ask questions, or raise concerns. If you support or oppose either option, or have additional input on the process — your feedback is welcome and appreciated!

I have a few simple questions:
Kyber Network currently works well as the oracle on the mainnet.

  • Why is there a need to switch to a different oracle?
  • Are there any specific benefits for Lido in doing so?
  • Is Kyber Network planning to stop providing these services soon, making this change a necessity?

Snapshot vote started

We’re starting the Decision on Kyber Network’s position in the Oracle Set: rotate to Caliber or remove and change the quorum Snapshot, active till Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:00:00 GMT . Please don’t forget to cast your vote!

Hi

Why is there a need to switch to a different oracle?

  • As previously mentioned, Kyber will be discontinuing its existing node infrastructure operations. This transition leverages the new team’s deeper focus and expertise. Regardless of the outcome of the on-chain vote, Kyber will cease its involvement in Lido oracle operations.

Are there any specific benefits for Lido in doing so?

  • The oracle quorum of 5 out of 9 for Lido on Ethereum will remain unchanged, with Caliber replacing Kyber.
  • Caliber brings stronger infrastructure capabilities and a more focused specialization in node operations, which will enhance the resilience and performance of Lido’s oracle setup.

Is Kyber Network planning to stop providing these services soon, making this change a necessity?

  • Yes. As outlined in our proposal, Kyber will step away from these services regardless of the vote’s result.

Hope this clarifies your concerns.
